Cryo Nerve Block Therapy - Thoracic Overview

AtriCure's cryoICE® and cryoSPHERE™ cryoablation probes are designed to temporarily block pain by ablating intercostal nerves under direct visualization in adolescent patients of at least 12 years of age.

Cryo Nerve Block Therapy - Thoracic Overview

A non-opioid solution for post-operative pain

Cryo Nerve Block Therapy (cryoNB) harnesses the power of cryoICE technology to provide long lasting pain relief for patients who undergo certain invasive cardiac or thoracic surgical procedures.

How Does It Work?

This technology uses a unique freezing method to temporarily block pain signals from nerves in the affected area, providing an effect that is similar to a local anesthetic, but lasts for several months during patient recovery.

Once frozen, the tubule structures of the nerve remain intact while the axon degenerates from the site of freezing distally. This is called Wallerian Degeneration.

Cryo Nerve Block is typically applied at intercostal spaces T3 thru T9, with cryoablation performed above, at, and below the incision level.
